Trenchless Sewer Repair

When your sewer backs up or fails, it can be a big headache for Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and Marin County homeowners. Not only is your plumbing backing up, but there’s the potential for a costly and timely repair if you aren’t careful about which plumbing and sewer company you hire.

The first questions every homeowner asks are – who can help me fix this, how much will this cost me, and how long will it take to repair? Another common concern that homeowners don’t often initially consider, but should, is – will a sewer repair ruin my yard, garage or driveway? With Bellows Plumbing, Heating, & Air the answer to that question is no, a sewer repair doesn’t have to tear up and ruin your beautiful yard or driveway thanks to trenchless sewer repair technology!

In the past, replacing or repairing a sewer line meant digging up huge sections of your property to access and repair the subterranean sewer pipes. Big jobs even required use of a backhoe to dig up all the earth. Luckily, we have better, safer and cleaner options for sewer repair in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and Marin Counties today. Trenchless sewer technology came on the market about 15 years ago and is quickly becoming the most popular option for homeowners, with as few as one to two relatively small holes having to be dug.

Bellows Plumbing, Heating, & Air Plumbing offers two types of trenchless sewer line replacement - "pipe lining" and "pipe bursting."

Pipe Lining: To install a pipe liner, which is also known as "cured in place pipe," a flexible tube coated with resin is blown or pulled into the damaged pipe and inflated. After several hours the resin hardens, creating a "pipe within a pipe." Lining will reduce your lateral's diameter by about a quarter inch, which experts say won't affect your capacity to remove waste from your home. Lining typically involves digging one access hole.

Pipe Bursting: The pipe bursting method involves pulling a new pipe through a damaged one, simultaneously fracturing it outward. This method typically requires access holes to be dug on either side of the lateral. Pipe lining may not be possible when the lateral has joints or has collapsed, but bursting can still be done on a collapsed lateral if there's room to drag a cable through the old pipe.

In a perfect world, the best option is to perform regular sewer line maintenance at your home and cable the line to ensure there are no breaks, cracks, tree roots, or blockages. But if you’ve been too busy to maintain your sewer lines and find yourself with a major blockage or back-up, don’t fret!
